Corning Gorilla Glass 6: Scratch Resistance Qualities, Mobile Phones Using, 6 Vs Corning Glass 5

Corning Gorilla Glass 6
Corning Incorporated has recently launched the Corning Gorilla Glass 6, which is being claimed as the toughest and most robust glass. Corning Gorilla Glass has become the cover glass of choice for device manufacturers around the globe. The manufacturer company of Corning Gorilla Glass 6 is one of the world's largest glassware and ceramic producer manufacturers and known for it's best quality products. The company claims that this is better than Corning Gorilla Glass 5 and the strongest glass made by the company for the safety of electronic products. According to the company, it will not break even after falling 15 times from 1 meter onto a rough surface. That’s up to twice what Gorilla Glass 5, released two years ago, could manage.

To improve cover glass performance, Corning scientists developed and engineered an entirely new material to address the challenge of multiple drops. Corning Gorilla Glass 6 is designed for smartphones and tablets with displays featuring an 18:9 or 19:9 display aspect ratio, therefore the Gorilla Glass 6 is claimed to be a better fit for handsets than the company’s previous-gen Gorilla Glass 5.

A most sensitive layer of the smartphone or tablet is a screen of the device which is most at risk of breaking down. Corning Gorilla Glass 6 is made to place in the top layer of the screen of a smartphone or tablet. Users touch the Gorilla Glass layer instead of the direct screen during the use of smartphones, thereby threatening scratch.

How are they made?

As the latest name Corning Gorilla Glass 6 suggests, Gorilla Glass has gone through many iterations. The first generation of Gorilla Glass launched in September 2007, followed by Gorilla Glass 2 in 2012, Gorilla Glass 3 in 2013, Gorilla Glass 5 in 2016 and the latest Gorilla Glass 6 this year in 2018. Gorilla Glass 6 is equivalent to Gorilla Glass 5 in scratch resistance but is designed to survive multiple drops from even greater heights. To improve cover glass performance, Corning scientists developed and engineered an entirely new material to address the problem of multiple drops.

Which devices are using Corning Gorilla Glass 6

There are many mobile phones which are in the list of using the Corning Gorilla Glass 6. Galaxy Note 9 is likely to be the first model with the latest Gorilla Glass panel. You can expect to see Gorilla Glass 6 devices within the next several months. Gorilla Glass is on over 6 billion consumer devices worldwide.

Apart from Gorilla Glass 6, Corning has also announced the Gorilla Glass DX and Gorilla Glass DX+ as tough solutions for wearables. While the Gorilla Glass DX offers the same scratch resistance of regular Gorilla Glass panel, the Gorilla Glass DX+ is claimed to provide even superior scratch resistance
